Moppet Turns Three and Microbiology

We started the week playing with friends, Moppet put on a music show first thing (opening the curtains with a, "Ladies and gentlemen!" :D )

She and Squidge played trains for a bit, while Sprout played zombies with one of his friends. Everyone played some games including find the thimble (which progressed into find the screw), and played with lots of musical instruments that people brought.

At home they watched some films and played minecraft together. Later on I took Sprout out, we'd intended to go to the chippy and sit in the car and chat for a bit, but we stopped at the supermarket on the way for milk and we noticed the hot wheels were half price at a quid and he only needed one more to have enough bar codes for an offer he was aiming for, so we spent our evening looking at the relative pros and cons of every hot wheels car in the display :) Back at home once the others were asleep, he and I stayed up and watched 10000BC, and he talked about the differences between reality tv and drama, and between reality TV and people who actually lived in the Stone Age. He talked about frostbite too and whether you could get in on your head, and I mentioned it was more likely on extremities because of the surface area to volume ratio.

While Sprout watched some Venos gaming videos, I watched this little one sleep and built a castle on minecraft PE with Squidge.

Pancake day came around and they asked for rainbow pancakes, so I played around and made some pictures with the coloured batter too :) The snail was the favourite :)

Sprout and Gruff started building their 3D printer.

Moppet and Squidge set up a ring toss game with some hoops and a load of mugs.

Sprout made some sticker robot pictures.

They all watched Sid the Science Kid for a while, which led to Sprout asking what 'germs' look like, so I downloaded a couple of apps (Microcosm, 3d 4 Medical, and iCell) and we looked at some different ones.

We looked at some other things too that he liked the look of, including chromosomes, which led to dna and then mitochondrial DNA and epigenetics.

The boys set up some Hot Wheels tracks while Moppet had a sleep, then we had friends round for the afternoon, played some Starbound, had some Nerf battles, and the kids next door played too. Later on Sprout skyped with a friend and tried to find a Starbound server, while Squidge played out til late and then came in to play CoD with his friend.

Moppet played on Endless Reader, watched lots of Bubble Guppies, and then played her current favourite app, which is this food chain one.

Sprout played on this atoms app where you play with the number of each particle in the atom and it changes the element correspondingly at the top.

Moppet threaded some beads.

Sprout and I watched someSimpsons, and talked about Roman numerals, horror films, the number 666, and what we thought the US film classifications might stand for.

The next day was home ed Lego day with friends at our house, followed by a water fight with other friends in the street.

We took the kids out for a Happy Meal afterwards, and played this Shaun the Sheep board game.

They were excited to get sheep-shape cereal bowls...

...and even more excited to find their burgers fitted in them :)

Sprout solved a missing letter puzzle without needing to actually find the letters, which reminded me of this, so I showed him and he read it straight off and found the concept really interesting.

We all watched a few episodes of Meet the Orangutans the next day...

...Squidge wanted to know what they eat...

...Sprout wondered what teeth they have...

...they all wanted to know about a squirrel they saw in the background...

...they talked about Borneo and what a rainforest is and the difference in climate...

...and Moppet wanted to know if baby Orangutans have mummy milk too.

Afterwards they all helped to put together a surprisingly difficult foam jigsaw I'd picked up for Moppet...

...then while Squidge watched King Kong, Ghostbusters and Kick Ass, Sprout invented various contraptions with his Lego technic motor.

Squidge and I did some more of the minecraft castle we're building together...

...while Sprout and Moppet played cars.

Moppet built some towers later while the boys played on the trampoline with their friends.

We all went to pick Gruff up from work, and we spotted pictures in the clouds all the way there. Squidge took a photo of these ones that he thought looked like a specific scene from My Name Is Gumball.

Moppet turned 3...

...this was her face when she saw her Peppa pig cake :)

We went to the Potteries museum for a little while and the boys played on Tux Paint...

...while Moppet showed Gruff her favourite parts.

We went to the library next for the exotic animals event. We were early so there was a bit of waiting round...

...then Moppet got her birthday wish which was to hold a baby crocodile :D

Sprout held it too...

...and this is the smile of a Squidge who thought he'd be too scared but actually stroked the little croc :)

Moppet then wanted to go back to the museum, so Gruff took her while I stayed with the boys.

Sprout held a corn snake while Squidge stroked it...

...they both stroked a meerkat...

...an armadillo...

...and a tortoise :)

Meanwhile Moppet dressed up as a cow at the museum :)

We all visited the replica WW1 trench...

...then went home for birthday cake :)

And pulled some faces :)

Gruff took Moppet out on her new balance bike while I worked on Squidge's Minecraft castle build with him and Sprout, then Squidge played out with his friends while Sprout played Lego Rock Raiders and Moppet made things with play doh.

We finished off with a birthday tea...

...and she blew candles out for the third time that day (once on her Peppa cake at breakfast, once again on her Peppa cake at lunch, then this time on cupcakes!)

Later on Sprout was wondering what the most popular pet was in different countries, so we looked it up, then we watched some bian lian videos to give them an idea of what we were doing the next day.

The next day we went to the Potteries Museum again for the Chinese New Year celebrations. We were early again so looked at some other things while we waited.

Sprout found a little colony of snails.

There was a dragon dance, some REALLY loud firecrackers...

...we bought some little dragon puppets, then watched some dance performances by kids...

...tried to watch this giant dancing slinky thing but struggled as it was soooo so busy...

...missed the lion dance as we couldn't see over the crowds, but managed to see the lions after and Moppet got to have her photo taken.

We headed home into the snow after that as it was just too busy for the kids to be able to see...

...so they asked us to find the things they missed on YouTube, so we found more bian lian videos, which had them entranced, and then some Cantonese opera.

Sprout wanted to know when new year is in Japan.

Squidge's friend told him about Yip Man and they watched some videos of Ip Man together.

Everyone played some Skylanders...

...and then while Sprout and I worked on his Lego sweet dispenser together and Squidge played out with his friends, Moppet and Gruff watched Top Gear together.
