A rain and Pinterest week...

The week started off deceptively sunny, so we got Moppet dressed in an actual dress (!)...

...and took Fly for her first walk in the park...

Then it started to rain. And rain. And rain.
We played some Skylanders, some Mario Party 9, and some Whoosh Games on Minecraft.
I marvelled and quietly got very excited as I noticed what a huge leap Sprout had made recently in moving towards reading naturally. Not only did he download and install some Minecraft custom maps on his own, he didn't even need me to tell him what letters he was looking for to find the relevant words to do so, he just found the words I called out. I completely trust in him and in unschooling but it's so lovely when you get those little peeks into what they're learning :D

As it continued to rain, we collected 'thunderstorm water' in a cup out of the window...

It rained some more, and we jumped in muddy puddles...

We drew with our fingers in sugar...

More rain, and Sprout watched films while wearing his new riding hat as it was sooo many days til his lesson...

And yet more rain, and we took Sprout to karate and on the way back picked up their newly-fired and glazed mugs they'd painted...

More rain, while Moppet started to get very alert and inquisitive...

...and, well, cute :D

During a brief and well-timed rain respite, Sprout had his riding lesson (photo courtesy of Squidge) in his new very own riding hat and boots, and actually went for a ride out of the riding school, up through the woods and to the park. Exciting!

Then the rain started again, so out came the cardboard boxes...

I got creative with some offcuts to make their current favourite things, a creeper for Sprout and Spiderman for Squidge so they could do some toothbrush painting...

Then I ransacked my Pinterest boards for some fun things to do.
Paper plate octopi (well, one octopus and one ghast, I'm told)...

...making snack necklaces (which I think is such a cool idea!)...

...then finally in our own take on an Art Attack we made monster Cyclops eyes using takeaway cup lids and golf balls!

Plus big news of the week (*drumroll*) at 28 weeks Moppet made a start on babyled weaning, with a first food of naan bread :D We hadn't planned on starting her yet as she isn't yet sitting up unsupported (she's still only 22 weeks adjusted age), but she grabbed the naan bread from me so we let her have a drooly suck on it :)

  1. What a great selection of rainy day activities! One of Sunnyboy's first foods was naan bread too. :)
